Gastroparesis, Momentum study

Are you living with gastroparesis?

If so, the Momentum study is for you.

Momentum Study, Gastroparesis Enrolling Trials

What is the Momentum study?

The Momentum study is a clinical research study for people living with moderate to severe gastroparesis. The goal of the study is to find out if the study drug (PCS12852) is safe and effective at helping with the poor breakdown of food that causes symptoms in people with gastroparesis.

What is the study drug?

PCS12852 is an investigational study drug designed to help manage gastroparesis. Investigational means the study drug is not approved by regulatory authorities like the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and it can only be used in clinical research studies

The study drug is taken by mouth and may improve the movement of stomach muscles so they can be more effective at pushing food through the digestive system.

Who can join the study?

People may be eligible to join the Momentum study if they meet these study requirements:

  • Age 18 to 80.
  • Diagnosis of gastroparesis confirmed by a health care professional.
  • Continuous moderate to severe symptoms of gastroparesis for at least the past 3 months.

Other study requirements apply.

Gastroparesis, , also known as delayed gastric emptying (GE), affects the normal movement of the stomach muscles. Normally, the stomach empties soon after eating. With gastroparesis, it takes food much longer to leave the stomach. Delayed emptying can cause poor breakdown of food and uncomfortable symptoms.

What can study participants expect?

Participation in the study lasts just over 1 month. Study participants can expect the following:

Screening (2 weeks or less)

Visit the study clinic twice for study health assessments to ensure qualification for the study.

Study drug period (4 weeks)

  • Be randomly assigned (like the flip of a coin) to receive the study drug or placebo. Placebo looks like the study drug but has no active ingredients. Study participants are more likely to receive the study drug than placebo.
  • Take the study drug or placebo by mouth each morning, about 30 minutes before a meal.
  • Visit the study clinic about 4 times for study health assessments.

Follow-up (1 week)

Visit the study clinic 2 more times for blood tests and follow-up health assessments.
